DRIVERS: Tech not all it’s cracked up to be

Re: “Eyes on road no guarantee of attention” (TNT, 6-16).

This University of Utah study demonstrates that the latest voice-based systems may be more harmful than helpful. While you may believe you are benefiting from the technology to get you to where you want to go, at the same time you are being distracted from your primary mission – to operate your vehicle in the safest manner possible.

There are almost always other things vying for your attention (radio, children or other passengers, etc.); this is just another added distraction.

And you thought this technology would improve your driving skills, not make a wreck of them!
