SR 167: A better idea would be to expand SR 18

I have heard the arguments on why state Route 167 should be completed from the Port of Tacoma to Interstate 5. I don’t buy any of the arguments.

I believe those who support the completion have a money gain of some sort. I also believe they have never had to commute on SR 167 each day. What we really need to do is add the third lane on state Route 18 between I-5 and SR 167. It would cost a lot less then building a new stretch of highway. If we can’t afford to take care of the roads we currently have, then why would we want to build another road?

If you want to speed up commerce and at the same time help the individuals who drive it each day, add an additional lane. The argument that not extending SR 167 to I-5 has cost the state tens of thousands of high-paying jobs does not compute. Not having six more miles of freeway is costing us tens of thousands of jobs, six miles? That is very hard to believe.

Sumner and Puyallup have had no problem building more warehouses, so I guess they are not concerned about the completion. Let’s spend the money where it will do the most good: Add the third lane to SR 18.
