It’s amazing to me that although there are very few streets in Tacoma that can be driven without dodging potholes, the public works department has the money, time and personnel to remove unauthorized crosswalks from the Stadium Way detour route (TNT, 5-17).
I would think the city would appreciate the help from local citizens who probably have a better idea of the actual need for the zone markings. In the latest case, the “rogue” crosswalk appeared at the corner of St. Helens Avenue and South Fourth Street in front of Cascade Park Vista, an assisted living facility whose residents could use the extra traffic assistance.
The next time you drive over a pothole, you’ll know the money to fix it has been more wisely used to grind off citizen crosswalks. Right.
