NBA: We want our Sonics back

The Seattle Sonics were moved to Oklahoma City in 2008 after the city failed to agree on building a new arena with Sonic owners. Since then, the Hansen group has a binding agreement to purchase the Sacramento Kings. It has binding agreements in place to build a new stadium and move the Kings to Seattle and bring Sonics basketball back. Now the NBA Relocation Committee has voted unanimously in favor of the Kings staying in Sacramento.

We want our Sonics back. If the NBA is not willing to let us have a expansion team or let us buy a team that is getting no city support, what are we to do as Sonic fans? I was recently at a Portland Trail Blazers games when they played the Oklahoma City Thunder and I seen thousands of Seattle Sonic fans out supporting their old Sonic team.

I know the Sonics tradition of yellow, green and white is spread throughout the Northwest region like rain on an early winter morning. We want our Sonics back and don’t care what it takes to get them. Seattle had a few down years after the Payton and Kemp era, and our Sonics were taking from us like we had abandoned them.

This is not the final decision on the matter and does not mean the Hansen group cannot buy the team. It is a strong showing that the fans in Seattle may have a ways to go before we see a new NBA team.
