The News Tribune’s view that our senators ignored the will of the American people in rejecting recent gun legislation (editorial, 4-19) is the opinion of a few editorial writers – an opinion that reaches thousands of people. Our newspaper, along with most papers in the country, expressed the same anti-gun opinions along with publishing numerous articles supporting their views in disproportion with pro-gun articles.

The media support for further gun legislation allied with President Obama and his government was a massive effort to influence public opinion and polls which would undoubtedly and unfairly bias polls our newspapers cite as justification for their anti-gun views.

The only effort to counter a massive effort of American media and government for onerous gun legislation was the NRA funded by mostly ordinary people, that is ordinary people against a cabal of media and government with unlimited resources whose publicity was probably worth billions of dollars.

Fortunately, America is a republic and polls or democracy are not valid. The senators who voted against the gun legislation knew their contingencies demanded a no vote. The government/media cabal attempt to buy the American people was unsuccessful. America is at its greatest when ordinary people via the NRA or other citizen organizations peacefully and without violence prevails over the elite establishment.
