PUYALLUP: Feeling of safety isn’t there anymore

I have always been proud to live in Puyallup. I have always felt safe. A recent home burglary left me cautious. I invested in an alarm system. Then an unrelated identity theft incident left me concerned. But the latest incident is over the top.

I took my grandson to our beautiful library, and there was a man watching the youngsters in the children’s area in a very disturbing way. He was not checking out books. He was not with children of his own. You had to be there to understand.

We left the library and went outside to the park to play. We watched the police deal with three incidents within feet of the play area. One involved calming a man screaming profanity at the officers across the park.

You know it’s getting bad when you have to drive to Tacoma to feel safe in a public park.
