COUNTY: Why charge hefty ‘convenience fee’?

As I begrudgingly logged on to pay my property taxes, credit card in hand, it was easy to use the Pierce County assessor-treasurer’s website to find my information and click the link to “pay online.” However I was unable to complete the transaction because of the outlandish and unreasonable $19.77 “convenience fee” that it wanted to charge me.

They must think I’m a fool. So, instead, it’s over to the desk, the checkbook, the roll of stamps and the multiple envelopes and paperwork (due to the office’s mailing snafu there is extra this year) so that I can mail a check, which will take them longer to receive, to process, and be more inconvenient and costly for us all.

What in the world continues to go on over there? I’d hoped for a quick reprieve from such insidious Washamery but not quite yet it seems. Come on!
