TNT: Depravity doesn’t belong on the front page

Re: “Gunfire leaves 3 dead at tavern” (TNT, 4-1).

Please stop advertising murder as a means for disturbed minds to get attention and a solution to their problems. A front-page spread for every shooting makes them think a lot of other people are doing that, so they should try it too.

Some people think sensationalism sells, but surely there is good news that will sell. And it can be helpful to society instead of degrading. If you must report depravity, it can be tucked away on an inside page.

There are far more good and commendable things going on than crimes. Interviews with people with helpful projects, at food banks, churches, or shelters for the homeless, abused women or animals, etc., could produce encouraging, uplifting news. Just think: 200,000 people in the Tacoma area today didn’t kill, rob or rape anyone. Why give all the publicity to the demented?

Of course, The News Tribune does have a lot of good, positive coverage, but the front page should reflect the best.
