I am opposed to the proposed required background checks for all gun purchases, as well as any more new laws to add to the already existing ones.
While I understand the reasoning and the desire to “do something,” it is still more government intrusion into an individual’s business that I and others have the problem with, as well as our ability to pass firearms on through inheritance to family members and friends or even as gifts – not to mention more taxation (fees) where there is none now.
The only way I can conceivably support this is to make it voluntary. Provide access for a private citizen to call in to inquire about a buyer you do not know. I think this is something others might support as long as it was voluntary with no record of a transaction in any database and at no cost.
We are all aware of who is responsible for the vast majority of gun murders. This speaks to a huge social issue the welfare state promotes and perpetuates. This is the issue politicians and others are afraid to speak of and do something about, for to do so they would have to admit that wealth redistribution and their long-held “utopian” ideas are at best wrong and at worst are the prime cause of the moral rot in America.
Like that’s going to happen.
