Why do our news corporations keep perpetuating the myth that the United States Postal Service is bankrupt? It is not about junk mail fees. In 2006, Congress created an absurd requirement that the USPS must set aside, by 2015, funds to cover the health benefits of all workers who’ll retire in the next 75 years. That includes workers not yet born.
What corporation could sustain this bankrupting burden?
So why has corporatized Congress created this multibillion-dollar set-aside on the back of this public service, demanding that the sum be paid out of current postal revenues? What Wall Street gangster is standing in the wings waiting to privatize this well-functioning business and steal the billions already in the fund?
Congress is making the USPS look bad financially when it is the best-funded federal sector in the government. Stop repeatedly perpetuating these myths. Contact your members of Congress and tell them to stop this madness.
