Re: “Good luck taking on the US military” (letter, 1-24).
The problem is that due to complacency of many citizens of this once great country, many have lost sight of what our founding fathers could see when they wrote the Constitution (to include the Second Amendment).
I am saddened that the current administration is using these unspeakable events at Sandy Hook Elementary School and other recent places to further its political agenda. If that were not the case, the administration would be attacking the mental health issue and the violent movies and video games with at least as much vigor as it is now attacking its “gun control” agenda.
That doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ve heard the speeches and very little was mentioned about the real issues of allowing firearms to be in the wrong hands.
Do not believe for one minute that the current administration will stop with so-called “assault weapons.” I firmly believe that the current push is only its short-term goal.
I referred to this “once great” country; as we slowly give up our freedoms, we are no longer as great and our government is no longer a government “of the people, by the people and for the people” as stated by President Abraham Lincoln.
There is a movie that depicts what happens when only the government and military have weapons. It’s a true story: “Schindler’s List.” Don’t think that it can’t happen here. It is happening now, one freedom at a time.
