GOVERNMENT: Keep our amendments intact

The First Amendment (freedom of expression and religion) and Second (freedom to keep and bear arms) were inspirationally written by our founders – visionary, nicely calculated and fittingly drafted to serve all citizens well and forever.

But with their collective wisdom and foresight, the founders did not anticipate the current vulgarization of our language or the corruption of our culture – the decline of civility, assassinations of opposing reputations, misrepresentations by political leaders and the mass killings of 20 schoolchildren.

Our founders would not claim “outrage” over the killing of 20 schoolchildren by a madman and simultaneously tolerate the intentional killing of 20 million babies by their mothers. They would not exonerate a president having sex with an intern in the White House; they would not cover up the murder of our ambassador to protect the current administration.

How could they? They were civil and trustworthy, not hypocritical, mean or self-serving. How could they anticipate today’s cultural denigration and governmental corruption? Their sincere intention was to establish minimum government to serve all people fairly; not a massive government to control the people, to redistribute the nation’s wealth among unproductive citizens and to serve public officials’ re-election purposes.

Any wonder that those who have allowed our language, culture and governments to be corrupted are the very ones who want to weaken our venerable First and Second Amendments – which are our first-line protectors against incivility, crime and tyranny.

We need a reversal – back to the founders’ philosophy and civility!
