GUNS: NRA’s words, actions are embarrassing

Letter by Rev. Gerald Montgomery, Lakewood on Jan. 17, 2013 at 9:54 am | No Comments »

The mere mention today of the president’s daughters in a television advertisement by the National Rifle Association was the worst example of bad manners – and the best example of panic – I’ve seen in many decades.

Responsible gun owners should be embarrassed by this merchants-of-murder group and reject them in every way. The only valid voices in this necessary public discussion can come from other, more thoughtful and responsible persons.

With its inflammatory and histrionic statements over the years, the NRA has proven that it should not be allowed to even participate in this national discussion. The organization is not an actual person and need not be given the privilege of free speech in our society. As a NRA member, I am disgusted with the organization.

(Montgomery is a retired pastor.)
