Re: “Will the Republican House please join this government?” (editorial, 12-26).
I agree with the editorial. I believe elections have consequences. Part of what voters said in our last election was that they trust this president and trust his vision for America.
Since the first terrible debt ceiling mess in August 2011, the Republican members of the House have engaged in hostage-taking and kidnapping of the health of the American economy. Compromise, in their view, is evil and consequences caused by their absolute inability to compromise mean nothing. Wall Street has been appalled, and most Americans feel like their economic future is in the hands of terrorists.
The founding fathers believed in compromise and the exchange of ideas and solutions. This country needs to move forward with a comprehensive economic plan forged out of the mutual trust of both parties. Those who refuse to respect those ideals have no business in public life.
I suggest that we are being held hostage by terrorists and that our economy deserves far more intelligent, careful care than that provided by the zealots in the House Republican caucus. They represent a real danger to America and should be treated as such.
They do not have the economic expertise to protect America or Americans and should be removed from office. At some point, they need to be treated as a serious threat to the integrity of our government.
