GUNS: Will NRA foot the bill for cops in schools?

The NRA has issued one of the most unrealistic statements conceivable in response to the mass murders in Connecticut. Its answer is “for armed police officers to be posted in every American school to stop the next killer waiting in the wings.”

NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre said, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” The recent spate of law enforcement officer shootings/attacks, belies this comment.

With school districts and cities throughout the United States facing almost insurmountable funding crises, the NRA’s solution is to add additional expenses for to fund law enforcement officers at each school. Would the NRA be willing to pay for these law enforcement personnel? Probably not.

A police officer can be in only one location in a school at a time. A person with evil intent can create chaos in another part of the school before an officer could possibly respond. Once the damage is done, the perpetrator could end his or her own life, or wait for “suicide by cop,” which seems to be all too popular around the country.

An officer in each school doesn’t seem to be a realistic response to the recent tragedy.
