SHOOTING: Gun ban won’t deter a determined killer

As tragic as Newtown was, it doesn’t hold the U.S. record. That would be the Bath School (Mich.) massacre of 1927.

Disgruntled taxpayer and school board treasurer Andrew Kehoe bludgeoned his sickly wife with a blunt instrument, rounded his animals into the barn and blew it and his house up. He had set dynamite charges in the school rigged to an alarm clock that exploded shortly after his barn. He turned his shrapnel-filled truck into an IED with dynamite, drove to the school and killed more victims as well as himself.

Several dynamite charges in the school did not explode. Still, he slaughtered 44, including his wife and 38 of the 236 students and injured 58.

No one called for a ban on dynamite, trucks, alarm clocks or blunt instruments.

When a person has murder in his heart, it matters not what’s in his hand.
