SHOOTING: Time to take action against gun violence

As a new grandfather, I am overwhelmed by the loss of 20 grandchildren in Connecticut. When will this hurtful violence stop?

I was a teenager when President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed. One of my teachers said then that the only good consequence of that shooting would be that better gun laws would be enacted. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Nor have multiple other tragic shootings of innocent people since then resulted in improved gun control legislation.

It is time for action, not talk. It is time for President Obama and for our elected representatives to enact legislation to make our country a safer place. It is time for we the people to step forward and demand it.

At this point, can anyone really believe we do not need better control of guns? I want my grandson – and your grandchildren – to be safe.
