GUNS: Murder of schoolchildren is the last straw

The news of the shooting of innocents in Connecticut made me weep. It also made me very angry again, about the lunacy surrounding gun control.

Predictably there will be damage-control comments from gun aficionados about the “constitutionally given freedom” to bear arms, about their right to be able to defend themselves. We’ll hear again that idiotic slogan about guns not killing people.

Well, guess what? A gun can’t fire unless it is loaded and touched in some fashion, and there are way too many accessible guns out there. And as far as the excuse that a person intent on killing doesn’t need a gun? I’d rather face a wacko without a gun than one with.

I am an American citizen, too. I want to live in freedom from fear that somebody I care about will be shot while in a school, a mall, a church, a beauty salon, riding in a car, sitting at home, walking in a park.
At what point will enough be enough? The death of which innocent person will be the last straw?

How many random and senseless shootings will it take until something is done to curb the proliferation of and access to firearms in our country? If not now, when?
