TNT: Two Democrats thwart will of state’s voters

Re: “A healthy check on Democratic power in Olympia” (editorial, 12-11).

It must be a constant source of annoyance for The News Tribune that all elections aren’t decided by newspaper editorial boards. That way Rob McKenna would be our next governor, Reagan Dunn would be our next attorney general, and the state Legislature would be full of Rodney Toms and Tim Sheldons – people who quicken the pulse of no one but elites who quest for “centrist politicians” – i.e., social libertarians and fiscal scolds.

Their necks must be sore from nodding in approval as Tom and Sheldon thwarted the will of Washingtonians. Finally, someone had the will to do what the well-meaning but undereducated voters didn’t want: Republicans in control of any branch of the state government. Sens. Tom and Sheldon have  saved Washington voters from themselves.

Who better to lead the Senate than a millionaire from Medina, a Republican turned Democrat turned Republican-caucusing Democrat? If Tom makes everyone angry and stands for nothing and no one but himself, he must be doing something right, right?

One might argue that it is duplicitous for Tom to take more than $180,000 from Democrats in his past two elections while squeaking out wins of less than 2,800 votes, but that person would be as dim as the voters who failed to elect a Republican state Senate in the first place.

Not only does he not stand for anything, he does not stand with anyone (at least not for very long). He’s a power-hungry plutocrat with no core, so I agree with the TNT: Rodney Tom for majority leader.
