HEALTH: First lady’s program doesn’t work

I am all for first ladies having a focus and helping to spread the word and clean up an area of society that seems to be in need. It is Michelle Obama’s desire to cut down on the number of obese persons in society. Good intentioned, but the way she is going about it is causing major frustrations throughout the land.

On talk radio, I hear callers expressing their frustration at working as a food server and putting out the food that Mrs. Obama wants the kids to eat, but the kids don’t eat it and dump this unused food into the garbage. How can children get used to something nutritious, if all they have ever had to eat is what their parents could afford that was ‘filling and full of sugar?” That very reason is why there is obesity and inflammation in the bodies, which leads to long-term health problems.

Yesterday, at a funeral, I was talking to a food server in the Tacoma area who indicated that, because her district is trying to follow Mrs. Obama’s rules, the hours for all food servers have been reduced (there goes her ability to have a steady income) and the kids still don’t eat the good foods placed in front of them (they would rather have sugar and filling).

I am saddened by the whole state of affairs.
