ISRAEL: Don’t provide one-sided coverage

Re: “Israeli strike leaves 11 dead” (TNT, 11-19).

I was shocked to see the headline. Nowhere in the front-page story was any mention of the thousands of rockets that fell in Israel in the last four years. Imagine the scenario if one rocket fell in the U.S. across our border with Canada. Would our reaction be thoughtful and measured?

The casualty numbers are much higher in Gaza because the rockets are launched from densely populated residential areas. I have never heard of bomb shelters for the Palestinian population. What do you tell children who must spend parts of every day in a bomb shelter in Israel?

I doubt young children could understand that they are truly fortunate that their government – local or national – cares enough about them to have provided a shelter for them. The casualties in Israel are less because bomb shelters and safe rooms are part of Israeli buildings.

Please mention information about both sides in this conflict to better inform people here in the Tacoma area. There is an overwhelming truth in this conflict: Hamas does not just want to hurt Israelis, but wants to destroy them and their country. Israel is desperately fighting for its existence.
