It seems to me that a critical question about Gen. John Allen’s email habits has gone unasked in the rush to find out what is in them.
If the 20,000-page count is evenly remotely accurate, the appropriate question is: When did he find time to run the war he is assigned to command? Excessive time spent on the Internet or, for that matter, simply daydreaming, while responsible for the lives of thousands of American troops and execution of a war smacks of dereliction of duty.
Let’s not get caught up in sensationalism and pandering to the prurient while overlooking the potential real problem. Our troops and allies in Afghanistan deserve the full and undivided attention of their commander in theater.
