Re: “Pierce Transit loses bid to raise sales tax” (TNT, 11-15).
I totally understand voters not wanting a tax hike to fund Pierce Transit. I don’t use Pierce Transit often, but I have a daughter who has to use the shuttle and a granddaughter who’s a student and has a part-time job at the Tacoma Mall and has no car.
I realize they are just two people out of thousands who depend on Pierce Transit to get to classes, their job, doctor’s appointments, etc. In this economy no one wants an increase in taxes.
What needs to happen here is a through investigation of Pierce Transit’s upper management. Is it top heavy? Are those people getting huge salaries at the expense of not only the public that depends on the buses and the shuttle but also the drivers who will be laid off when routes are cut?
Routes to areas like the Key Peninsula and Bonney Lake were cut several years back, leaving those folks stranded without public transportation. Don’t let this happen again. Shame on Pierce Transit management if they’re the ones causing this problem. Someone needs to step forward and do the right thing.
