ELECTION: Lonergan’s shown dependable leadership

Pierce County voters have a rare opportunity to elect exactly the right person to fix the troubled office of assessor-treasurer. We should choose the proven leader who has brought order out of chaos before.

I worked at the Tacoma Rescue Mission for many years, both before and after Mike Lonergan became executive director.  It was night and day when he took over. I saw him literally rescue the rescue mission!  After a very stressful time, he quickly got us stabilized and then began improving services to treat both chronic and acute homelessness.

Later, I followed Lonergan’s career as an elected Tacoma City Council member and deputy mayor. He is always open and accountable to the public – exactly what we need in a government official. In contrast, I see that his opponent’s main support comes from employees in the assessor-treasurer’s office and from the Teamsters Union.  The assessor-treasurer is elected to be accountable to the taxpayers.

I believe in Lonergan as a dependable leader, and I wholeheartedly support him.
