Pierce Transit is showing how deceitful it can be by offering Pierce County Proposition 1 to only certain Pierce County voters.
After voters rejected a sales tax increase for Pierce Transit in 2011, the agency defined a very narrow “service” area along its routes and along the very narrow retail corridors in parts of Pierce County. Only those individuals who reside within these arbitrarily defined areas are allowed to vote on the sales tax increase of Prop. 1.
Many people who use the retailers within those narrow boundaries do not reside within them and are therefore disqualified from voting on whether the sales tax that they pay should remain as it is or increase to pay for Pierce Transit.
If this proposition passes, tens-of-thousands of people will see their sales tax increase without ever getting a say in its passage. That is just wrong! And Pierce Transit should be for attempting such a maneuver.
I suggest that individuals who can vote for this proposition send Pierce Transit a message that these tactics are not to be tolerated and soundly reject the measure.
