I am writing as the director of Rebuilding Hope, the Sexual Assault Center for Pierce County, to say why I was pleased, but not surprised, when state Rep. Jeannie Darneille was selected as a legislator of the year by the Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs (WCSAP).

Rebuilding Hope and WCSAP have worked closely with Darneille over many legislative sessions to protect and advance the rights of sexual assault victims. She has been particularly tireless in protecting funding for sexual assault programs around the state. It is largely due to her efforts that these funds have taken no cuts, despite the budget difficulties of these last several years.

I congratulate Darneille on being named a WCSAP Legislator of the Year and thank her for years of work on behalf of sexual assault survivors and programs that serve them.
