ELECTION: Darneille’s votes are fair game

I do not understand the Darneille campaign’s attacks on Jack Connelly’s campaign. All the Connelly campaign has done is brought her votes to the attention of her constituents. If the Connelly campaign had not done that there would be no way for voters to know that she has been voting against their interests in the Legislature.

I appreciate the work by the Connelly campaign to do that, and I appreciate the fact that it is limiting its campaign mailers to her voting record. This should be fair game.

In emphasizing the picture on the mailer, Jeannie Darneille’s campaign is trying to change the focus away from her poor judgment. Everyone knows that a young woman of 18 years should not be taken advantage of by a teacher. That was the reason that virtually the entire Legislature, including the other representatives from the 27th District and Pierce County, voted for the law.

Darneille’s explanation for her vote does not make any sense and was a vote that demonstrated a lack of understanding of the difficulties young women in this age group have. This age group is the most vulnerable to this type of sexual exploitation. This was recognized by the Legislature, except for Darneille.
