A strong moral compass is a characteristic of those whom I highly regard, and Jack Connelly was among them. He appeared to be a person who not only held a deep religious faith, he lived it – or so I thought.
During his campaign for 27th District state Senate, a different side of him has emerged, which is disturbing to me. Not only has he twisted facts, warped the truth and told blatant lies about his opponent, he has gone over the edge in his attempts to denigrate her.
Connelly’s latest hit piece reaches a new low. It depicts a sweet, young, scantily glad girl in a suggestive pose. Any message in the mailer was lost in my shock and dismay that he would resort to such tactics. Maybe this doesn’t violate any laws, but was this a morally correct decision? Why would a good Christian exploit a child in this way? Would he allow a similar photograph of one of his daughters to be mailed to hundreds of strangers?
Some things are of greater value than winning. When votes are counted, I wonder if he will think all this was worth the damage to his reputation.
