I am incredibly disgusted by the fact that Jack Connelly has spent more than $988,000 on his race to defeat state Rep. Jeannie Darneille (Political Buzz, 10-17).

I served two years in Iraq fighting for what I thought was a democratic country, but now I question that notion. It is horrifying and shows a severe lack of fairness. How can you compete against someone who will spend that much money to spout their lies and distortions?

I am a college student with little more than a couple hundred dollars to my name at any given time. How could my voice ever add up to the million-dollar voice he has bought for himself?

I am proud of the work that Darneille has done. She has fought for every one of us here in Tacoma and has worked hard to ensure that we all are given a fair shot at contributing to our society. She has spent the last 30 years fighting for equality and is the only pro-marriage equality candidate in this race. She is also the only person in this race that focuses on the real problems of access to health care for the women of our community instead of blaming them and attacking their right to choose.

Connelly has lost my respect for him with his attempt to buy his way into the Senate. He cannot buy my vote and he cannot buy the vote of the strong and intelligent people of the 27th Legislative District.
