MEDICARE: Your tax dollars at work

A few days ago I received a mailing from a Medicare supplement provider. It pointed out that Medicare provides free interpreter services in 18 languages, including Chinese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Arabic, Hindi and French Creole.

At a time when America is in grave financial condition, it might be reasonable to ask people who come here and apply for benefits of some kind to do so in English.

The amount of money that goes to pay for these “free” services is not free to the American taxpayers who fill out their income tax forms in English.

As the old saying goes, “There is no such thing as a free lunch.”
