DEBATE: Biden lost it on style

I watched the vice presidential debate last night and was stunned by the rudeness of Vice President Joe Biden. This was the most bizarre debate I have ever seen.

From the beginning, Biden continually interrupted Congressman Paul Ryan in mid-sentence and disrespectfully called him “this guy.” Biden arrogantly laughed, giggled and smirked while Ryan was talking, distracting anyone who was watching.

Moderator Martha Raddatz should have stepped in to stop the Biden interruptions but didn’t. Ryan politely asked Biden to stop but he continued anyway. It was obvious Biden was given the job of “attack dog” after President Obama’s poor performance in the first debate.

Two points Biden made stuck out for me. First, actions speak louder than words. Biden said he cares about the poor and the middle class, yet over the last 10 years his average donation to charity was $379 (ABC News).

Second, Biden noted the Republicans put two wars and the Medicare Prescription Drug Program on a credit card. Biden voted for both wars and voted against the drug program. Seniors desperately needed that program.

I’m sure Biden’s performance played well with the liberal base, but I doubt it swayed any independents. Early polling showed Ryan won the debate. Actually, Biden lost it on style.
