DEFICIT: We need leadership in D.C.

Let’s all face the facts. America is going broke. Democrats blame George W. Bush. Republicans blame Barack Obama. That doesn’t really matter. We have had four years of just blame and an increase in the deficit to over $16 trillion from about $10 trillion.

Depending on which side from Washington you listen to, if D.C. does nothing (sounds like Congress to me), it will grow another $10 trillion in the next 10 years.

The good news is we have the ability to solve this problem. If we were to tap into all of our current energy resources, we could solve lots of problems. First, it would create American jobs. Second, it could totally reduce our dependency on foreign oil from countries that really do not like us that much and most likely lower the cost of gas to the American consumer.

Third, since we would control our energy, it would most likely lower the current $4 gas price to $2. So if we put a tax of $1 a gallon on fuel, this tax could be used to fund alternative energy sources and reduce deficits in the amount of over $300 billion a year. We use close to 300 billion gallons of fuel a year.

Think of it: American jobs, energy independence, lower gas prices, lower deficits and funding for needed alternative energy sources. Seems simple, but easy to do if we had leadership in D.C.
