ELECTION: Halloween comes early for Romney

After years of campaigning, Mitt Romney has finally managed to move the needle in a positive direction. How’d he do it? By realizing what Americans really want and embracing it as if he believes it. Tax cuts for the rich? What tax cuts for the rich? Yes, I’m going to repeal Obamacare and replace it with the exact same thing.

The Mitt Romney who showed up at the debate last week was someone we’ve never seen before. I suggest we revisit the real Mitt Romney and see what he truly believes. For example:

• At an Ohio university, he exhorted students to start a business by borrowing money from their parents. I guess if you’ve lived a life of affluence, those words pass for reasonable advice.

• We’ve all heard Romney say that 47 percent of us refuse to take personal responsibility for our lives. Almost half? I know I’m doing my part. That must make you the slacker.

This is the man who says he can bring us together. My question is, given his sheltered existence, who is us? His remaining 53 percent? The 1 percent?

Don’t be fooled by the new Mitt Romney. He’s just getting into the Halloween spirit a little earlier than the rest of us. If elected, he’ll unmask. That’s when things will get scary.
