Re: “Why that word is so important” (letter, 10-4).

The letter writer reveals just how deeply homosexual “marriage” inverts the purpose of marriage. Is not the essential purpose of marriage to attach fathers and mothers to their children?

Government-created homosexual “marriage” deliberately separates children from at least one of their biological parents. Do children not have the right to a relationship with or to be known by both their father and mother?

Homosexual “marriage” changes the institution from a child-centered institution to a selfish, adult-centered institution. Deliberately conceiving a child who will never know or have a relationship with his or her father or mother is unjust and cruel to the child.

Homosexual “marriage” advocates claim that children don’t really need both a father and a mother. That is a factitious statement that asserts that fathers and mothers are irrelevant to parenting. The truth is, two good “moms” or two good “dads” have not, are not and will never add up to a father and mother making the unique, God-designed contribution to a child’s development.

In the end, government-created homosexual “marriage” transforms the institution into one that deliberately separates children from at least one of their biological parents. Are children entitled, do they have the right or not, to know and have a relationship with both their father and mother, or, does an individuals sexual behavior and selfishness trump the well-being of children?

Does society have the duty to look at marriage from the child’s point of view?
