UPLACE: Don’t delay in installing flagpole

Re: “University Place Council will try again for flagpole” (TNT, 10-2).

It is hard to imagine that the University Place City Council still can’t make a decision where to place a symbol of this great country.

The University Place council is still out of compliance with the federal code requiring that the American flag be displayed near the main administration building of public institutions. Would a citizen of University Place be allowed to stay out of compliance with a city code?

I’m not sure why the location near Bridgeport Way “is unsuitable due to road noise and proximity to moving traffic” is an issue, according to a flagpole task force member. The America flag stood through more than that when we became a country.
