ELECTION: Gunn running a clean money campaign

I met Brian Gunn this week. He’s running for state representative in the 31st Legislative District that covers parts of Pierce and King counties. I’m used to seeing taped interviews of candidates, so face-to-face was a nice change.

I found Gunn to be articulate, intelligent and open to listening. He is running a “clean money campaign,” accepting only donations up to $100 from individuals. No special interests can claim a payback when it comes time to vote.

My key issues are state revenue and education. He believes we need to abide by our state constitution and fully fund education. That’s a nice sentiment, but where does the revenue come from? He supports the idea of a state bank which would keep state and local funds in Washington, reducing our risk and allowing the state to profit from deposits rather than one of the big Wall Street banks.

He also proposes a change to the business and occupation tax structure that would benefit entrepreneurial start-ups in order to spur job creation. And more jobs means more working people and more revenue for the state.

I liked the man I met and the ideas he shared. I’m voting for Gunn as my 31st District representative.
