NFL: Remember, it’s just a game

I have been watching all the news about the substitute NFL referees and all the turmoil caused, especially since the Monday night game where the Seattle Seahawks won. I think we should all remember that in the end, it’s just a game.

Referees in other countries get threatened, assaulted, and even killed for making bad calls. This is especially true in countries where soccer approaches the level of a religion. I think berating the refs on national TV is irresponsible and dangerous. Even Paul Ryan and the president chimed in. Vegas book makers added that the blown call resulted in $250 million in lost bet money.

It does not take much for some folks to get mad enough to hurt or kill others. Look at the number of road-rage cases where guns are used simply because somebody got cut off. It is probably not hard to imagine that those refs and their families are getting death threats. Somebody might even act out on it.

Give those guys a break. It’s a game.
