FAIR: Name change shows a lot of gall

Re: “‘Do the Puyallup’ won’t change” (TNT, 9-20).

I could not believe the gall of the Western Washington Fair Association in changing the name of the Puyallup Fair to the Washington State Fair. Since when did Puyallup become Washington State?

Being from Yakima/Central Washington, I am a bit irritated with the thought that everything in this state revolves around Western Washington. There are several fairs throughout the state, and they are all named according to where they are located. Considering the “fan base” for the Puyallup fair is mostly Pierce County, wouldn’t it be more appropriate to call it the Pierce County Fair?

Having grown up with the Central Washington State Fair for most of my life, I am saddened to know that now there is only one fair for me to attend. I assume that all other fairs are now obsolete.

That being said, I am headed home to Yakima in late September to visit the second (or is it third) largest fair in the state and not pay more than $10 for an Earthquake burger.
