Re: “Romney: Obama backers ‘dependent on government’” (TNT, 9-18).
Neither presidential candidate is to my liking. However, what bothers me most about this situation is the blatant misinterpretation of what Mitt Romney said.
If a person carefully reads what he said, it is clear that he was talking about a select group of people who “will vote for the president no matter what.” He said 47 percent. So, what do his words actually mean?
For instance, if there were 200,000 people in a voting district, and 100,000 people voted for the president, Romney is saying 47,000 of those Obama voters would have voted for him “no matter what.” The remaining 53,000 were actually convinced to vote for the president. The “no matter what” Obama voter group does not translate to nearly 50 percent of the district’s electorate, but rather 23.5 percent!
So, what does this all boil down to? Selective reading/interpretation by the media. Voters should get the facts from multiple sources and make their own conclusions.
