TACOMA: Broken immigration system needs reform

Thanks to Lewis Kamb and The News Tribune for the outstanding article, “Center of Detention” (TNT, 9-9). The Northwest Detention Center is a key piece of a much larger immigration picture, and its presence has profound implications for our city.

Rarely have I seen an article provide the depth and breadth of coverage seen here, and I eagerly await the rest of the series. My hope is that your coverage will help spread awareness of the center, move us to assure acceptable conditions for detainees, mitigate negative impacts on the city and eventually lead to a complete reform of a broken immigration system.

Remember that when they get their driver licenses, all they have to do is check a box and they become registered voters!

The is why the democrats continue to pander to the illegals with $2 billion of free health care, free tuition, subsidized housing, welfare, EBT cards, drivers licenses, sanctuary city policies, etc… The democrats want that voting block…

And remember, also, that Barak Obama just gave amnesty to 1 million illegals with the stroke of the pen.

  2. taxedenoughintacoma says:

Endless media sympathy for illegal aliens. ZERO media sympathy for American workers displaced by them. Just disgusting.

  3. WBusheyShipsBoatswain says:

Funny, the voter suppression efforts in Texas and Florida have found one illegal voter, a Canadian. So the driver’s license check seems a wash. As to fixing the system, no one wants to remove the incentive provided by greedy employers. The usual urban legends about all the freebies reflect that you have never been to the websites and checked on eligibility.

If we have 12 million illegals, the impact on our economy (negative) would be staggeringly negative. the urban legend of “taking American jobs” was debunked in Alabama and California. The jobs normally filled by undocumented aliens went unfilled. Not slightly filled, or under filled, but unfilled.

Reason and common sense says we improve the SS Check system, put stiff penalties (arrest, fine, immediate loss of business and assets) in place for anyone employing or housing them and run a 90 day “Come Out of the Shadows” amnesty. If they come out, they go in system, get a fine and go on the 5 year citizenship clock, with deportation if they don’t complete the program.

Truthbuster and 3rd pig will spill the usual hate about how “they broke the law and cheated” but so did Wall Street CEO’s, but never mentioned them. The above is not an ideal solution, but it is a workable compromise.

  4. hackercat13 says:

If they want to stay, yeah, give them a short amnesty window. Register, start paying taxes, welcome to America, friend! After that, deport every swinging Richard without permission to be here.

  5. itwasntmethistime says:

They only get caught when they break the law. If they really wanted to stay they would follow our laws to the letter. If my family’s survival depended on my not getting deported you couldn’t force me to drink and drive.

  6. What is broken is our politician’s and political leader’s .Enforce our law’s and help the American taxpayer’s from illegal immigration.

  7. lylelaws says:

I agree that the system (or lack of system)needs to be reformed before we are completely overrun with illegals,

I don’t blame them for wanting to come here, and maybe you are fine with letting them take jobs that able bodied but lazy Americans could be doing but I am not.

Every dollar we spend to provide them with food, housing, education and medical care is a dollar that could be helping poverty-stricken American citizens.

  8. MrCarleone says:

How many illegals did Saint Ronnie wave his wand over ?

  9. MyBandito says:

Stiff penalties for any business or individual who hires an illegal.

  10. itwasntmethistime says:

I don’t mind illegals. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to live where there is no hope you will ever be able to provide your children with enough food to survive. I just feel if they want to take refuge in our country they should follow every single one of our laws 100% of the time. No stealing, no violence, no drugs, no traffic infractions, etc.

  11. As long as you don’t mind illegals, maybe you can put up a welcome sign in your yard for them. From what I read in the news,it seems the illegals start off on their criminal career by breaking the law by the way they get here in the first place.I also feel the illegals teach their compatriots where the freebies are that are available to them and how to gain access to those goods.Oh, guess who supplies those free goods? If you said the hard working Taxpayer, you hit the nail on the head!Meanwhile there are plenty of American Citizens older and young that go to bed hungry.Seems there is plenty of empathy for illegals with none left over for our own citizens.I suppose that is why America is condidered to be the land of plenty except when it means the true citizens.
