UPLACE: Better option than a name change

Regarding a suggested change from University Place to Chambers Bay (editorial, 8-21), it makes absolutely no sense and changing it at all makes even less.

The area has been known as University Place since the late 1800s, and there does not seem to be mass confusion or an identity crisis. To possibly change the name to that of a relatively new golf course does not accomplish anything other than better advertise the golf course itself.

If there is an identity issue with the name University Place, then get a university! There is a rather large area of land along Bridgeport Way begging to be developed. Another location might be that along 27th Street West, which has been in decline for years.

Washington has several universities that might consider establishing a branch campus at a western site, and that would be of more benefit to more people than a name change.
