UPLACE: City going about name change backwards

Re: “UP considers a name change” (TNT, 8-18).

The University Place city fathers are looking at this proposal backwards.
The process of coming up with a new name would be cumbersome,
contentious and costly.

Instead, they should live with the status quo, recruit or build a large for-profit university, place it in the now-empty Town Center, and let the profits from same pay off the city’s debt.

Those places are cash cows; I read it in The News Tribune.

  1. MrCarleone says:

It is truly unfortunate that people such as Nye and Grassi are the best that we can hope for in our elected officials.

If only they would spend as much time on Their City, as they do kissing-the-rings of the Ladenburgs and the McCarthy’s.

  2. fanciladi says:

This whole name change subject is assinine. It’s all about status…hoity toity status! UP is what it is and yes, as MrCarleone said, UP leaders should spend more time on UP instead of ring kissing…wondering…where is that ring they’re kissing???

Just drop the subject and get to running the city and not running it into the ground!

  3. took14theteam says:

Has anyone heard of a city in South King County called Federal Way?

That is a city that should be renamed.

You “holier than thou” residents chose University Place for your new cities name, so suck it up and deal with it.

  4. Olympia should be renamed also. Olympia gives an impression of great feats by super human specimens with masterful skills and attributes.

Not exactly in line with what goes on in our Olympia.

  5. fanciladi says:

I’m not ‘holier than thou’, I live in UP and I don’t want it changed!
