SUMNER: The circus has come to Sumner

Letter by Richard Lawson, Sumner on Aug. 15, 2012 at 1:55 pm with 2 Comments »

I watched the Aug. 6 meeting of the Sumner City Council on television. I was very upset to see Councilman Randy Hynek turn the meeting into an absolute lesson on stupidity.

The citizens of Sumner deserve better than this from their elected officials. The only discussions that should take place are subjects that are relevant to city business and the welfare of their citizens.

If Hynek thinks the mayor is after him, this is not a discussion for a council meeting. Alleged personal attacks should be taken up with the individuals involved, and not in a public forum. I frankly don’t care if the mayor, or the boogeyman is after Hynek. This appears to be a personal matter to me. As a taxpayer, I think the council should discuss only subjects that are not of a personal nature.

Council members should not get elected because they have personal agendas. Mature adults can put these aside.

(Lawson is a former Sumner mayor, councilman and planning commission member.)

  1. Looks like Sumner is just a little jealous of Pacific’s drama. As long as they stop before it gets as bad as Snohomish County …

  2. Its a phenomena caused by the summer heat. Hallucinogens have been flushed from Puyallup City Hall into the Puyallup River and they have been brought upstream by a strong summer tide to Sumner and seeped into the water table.

As long as your council members don’t start touching up the staff, you should be OK.
