ELECTION: Paul Ryan’s budget cuts ‘immoral’

Do Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan think that older Americans who currently receive Medicare benefits don’t care what happens to our children and grandchildren who are 54 and younger as long as we keep “getting ours”?

That is not only personally insulting to us as parents and grandparents, but reflects Ryan’s adherence to the writings of his idol, Ayn Rand, who he says inspired him to enter public life.

Rand equated individual wealth with success and claimed that poverty was evidence of inferiority. She opposed helping the poor because it encourages them – rather like feeding raccoons in your back yard, I suppose.

The National Council of Catholic Bishops has denounced his budget’s decimation of Medicare and Medicaid as immoral because it hurts the poor.

Ryan’s other hero, Jesus Christ, said we should walk the extra mile and “give your whole cloak”  to one who asks for half. He said “what you do unto the least of these, my brethren, you do unto me.”

But Ryan, the “devout Catholic,” ignores that teaching while supporting “personhood” laws conforming to Catholic dogma that a fertilized egg has, from the moment of conception, rights equal to those of its mother or any person walking among us. Commonly used hormonal birth control and IUDs should be forbidden to all Americans, regardless of their religious beliefs, because they prevent a fertilized “egg-person” from attaching to the uterine lining.

Either Ryan is a rank hypocrite, or he has a serious reading comprehension problem – or both.
