SIKHS: More awareness would be useful

Kudos to Ingrid Walker for her Your Voice article, “Coverage of Sikh temple rampage pales in comparison to Colorado killings” (TNT, 8-10).

Truly it is the less coverage that prompted a person from a white supremacist group to go on the killing spree and kill innocent people in the prayer hall. Had he known about Sikh community, maybe this may not have happened. Sikhs never tell anyone to convert and pray and respect for everyone. I hope The News Tribune and other newspapers provide good coverage in the future.

We have tried to convey the Sikh thoughts and bridge the gap through Aasra Punjabi English Magazine. For more than six years we have been publishing “Aasra” – Connecting Communities. Our readership is the adult, professional group of people of Indian origin. However, due to literary contents, including English poetry, we are achieving our goal of connecting communities. This is distributed free at the Indian business outlets and other community gathering areas. This magazine is available through the King County Library System and Washington State Library.

I invite anyone to visit the Sikh temple or Gurudwara any time.

This lunatic would have done something horrible regardless. You can’t teach bigots and idiots like that anything.

As far as less coverage, not to discount the horrible situation, but many more people were injured and killed in Colorado, hence more reporting.
