Re: “Tillicum Shotgun Chapel hopes discount draws in JBLM service members” (TNT, 8-7).

While I agree with the idea of a low-cost wedding being made available to our service men and women, making a mockery of marriage should not be part of the package. Pink with zebra stripe decor may be fitting for the honeymoon, but for the wedding? Guns, hand grenades and knives spelling the word “love” seems the perfect definition of “oxymoron.”

Co-owner Bronwen Stevenson stated, “There’s a lot of people in the military looking for something different than the courthouse.” I agree 100 percent. As a wedding officiant, I know for a fact there are are a number of alternatives to going to the courthouse. Guns and grenades do not need to part of the option.

As for the cost of $250, this is high for our military folks. Many wedding officiants, myself included, offer a military discount, some as low as $150. There are beautiful locations in our area to get married at no cost.

I wish the couple profiled in the article well. I just want our much-deserving military personnel to be aware that there are other, cheaper options available.
