Unsure who to vote for for governor? I was, too, so I looked at the candidates’ plans. I liked what Jay Inslee had to say.

His education plan contains specifics for closing the achievement gap such as early education, community outreach, and after-school enrichment targeting the most at-risk youth.

One of the ideas I most appreciate is his Collaborative Schools project which will pair low-performing schools with a college or university for training future teachers, conducting research about what’s working and providing professional development to educators already in the schools.

These are all practices that have proven records of success and are based on evidence rather than ideology. Inslee has a solid plan for improvement.

I have worked for more than 15 years with at-risk youth, seven of those years as a teacher. I am now a researcher focused on what schools can do to improve success for high-poverty students. Both my experience and research tell me that Inslee has a good plan for improving education for Washington students. Electing Inslee would be taking a step forward for educational success for all our kids.
