MARRIAGE: Moral guidance at a chicken restaurant?

Letter by Dennis D. Doucette, Auburn on Aug. 3, 2012 at 9:02 am with 25 Comments »

Re: “Chick-fil-A says it set a record in sales” (TNT, 8-3).

I have been surprised by the public support of Chic-fil-A after it came out in support of the biblical definition of marriage.

I’m not surprised by the fact that many people don’t support gay marriage. I am surprised at the number of people seeking spiritual guidance from chicken restaurants. I guess it is no sillier than worshipping a magical man in the sky or a flying spaghetti monster.

I also find it hard to tell where one headline ends and the next headline begins in the media. One example I found on a news website: “Chick-fil-A fans helped set record/Couple stoned to death for adultery.”

  1. Just great PR for Chic-fil-A.

  2. Clamat0 says:

Here’s a hint for ‘ya, Denny; the folks that stone couples to death for adultery mete out the same brand of “justice” to gays and infidels (aka religious bigots, secularists, etc).

Just be “glad” you live in country that tolerates obtuse LTE’s.

  3. CrazyJim says:

I support the free speech rights of the owner of chic-a-thingy to be a bigot on his own dime.

  4. The left has now redefined bigot. So BHO was a bigot until 90 days ago? Who knew…

  5. averageJose says:

I note a striking similarity, Dennis, in your writing style and that of a frequent commenter.

  6. Here we go again with the old multiple monikers routine.

  7. LeePHill says:

    I note a striking familiarity to paranoia….

  8. averageJose says:

If that’s what you equate with paranoia it says alot about you Larry P. Hill of Olympia.

x… who said anything about multiple monikers?

  9. sumyungboi says:

lee: “I note a striking familiarity to paranoia”

That’s hilarious coming from a kid who thinks I’m a chick stalking him online! :)

As far as this ridiculous letter goes, I suspect that the letter writer knows that the Chic-fil-A day was a support of a private citizen being persecuted, and his company being punished by several city governments, for exercising free speech. It’s not about, and never was about, bible thumping. If private citizens want to boycott Chic-fil-A, have at it, but for you people who’re cheering on the government thought police for punishing a private enterprise, be very careful what you wish for.

  10. It’s all about the 1st Amendment. The only reportable incidents that required police intervention was done by the tyranical libs, as usual. Pass the chicken!

  11. sumyungboi says:

Frosty, it’s like the old saying goes, when conservatives exercise free speech, liberals break things. When liberals exercise free speech, liberals break things.

It’s easy to do, when you’re not the one paying to fix things.

  12. Sumy,
Never heard that saying – off hand I would date it as first being said at about 5:51 when you wrote it.

When liberals gather to speak, conservatives heart nothing but see a riot.

  13. Frosty – of course you have verifiable proof that there were incidents, that they were caused only by libs, and police only had to act against the libs?

Sounds like a typical Fox report.

  14. beerBoy says:

I find it rather odd and bathetic that a regular poster here is so consumed with conspiracy theories about the other regular posters here.

  15. sumyungboi says:

Heard it during wto, xring, but I’ll claim it if it makes you feel better. :)

  16. xring, I’ll not volunteer to do your research for you. I couldn’t convince you if I tried. BTW, I’m still waiting for you to tell me what is a “Combat Service Award” from the Marine Corps that you claim you received from your service in RVN.. I can’t seem to find in in the Mrine Corps list of awards and citations. I”ll keep asking until you come up with it.

  17. sumyungboi says:

Frosty, you’ve probably noticed, with regards to the proggies that comment here, but…

If the discussion has anything to do with military issues, and especially if it’s about Republican “draft dodging”, all of a sudden, they’re all Vietnam vets with combat experience.

If the discussion is about taxes, they’re suddenly all a bunch of small business owners who don’t mind paying more taxes than they do now.

If the discussion is about guns, they’re all gun experts / owners, but don’t understand why anyone else “needs” a gun.

    And on and on.

  18. beerBoy says:

syb – again with the blanket generalizations. I’m not a “prog” but I am lumped in with the rest of the Left. Never claimed to be a vet, never claimed to be a gun owner/expert.

However – you might find it interesting to compare the Dem/Repub politicos and their service records. There be a lot of chickenhawks on the Right.

  19. beerBoy says:

I have, however, been a small business owner and continue to work as an independent contractor. I complained many times about the absurdities and unfairness of the WA B&O tax.

  20. sumyungboi says:

    bb: “I’m not a “prog””

Then don’t get your skivvies all bunched up.

  21. averageJose says:

“I am not allowed by Jesus to hate anyone. Our culture has accepted two huge lies: The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear them or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”

    Rick Warren

  22. sumyungboi, I have noticed that xring is avoiding a simple question. He stated some time ago that he received a “combat service ribbon” for his service in Vietnam. I don’t know if he’s lying or not, if he can demonstrate that there is such a citation, fine. If not, he is the lowest of the low. I can’t stand people who lie about military service. As much as I hate to say it, I respect beerboy and LeePHill more because they’ll at least admit that they were draft dodgers.

  23. aJo – Jesus said to love one another, Christians hate all who not of their own cult.

Frosty, The term is Combat Action Ribbon.

However, so typical that you would rather trash talking your betters and prove your ignorance, than type three words into a search engine.

Tell me, how many of your men did you have to order to sleep next to you to prevent getting fragged.

Or were you one of the more typical officer that sleeped in the rear with the gear, in air conditioned huts, behind barbed wire defenses?

  24. beerBoy says:

frosty – how could I have been a draft dodger when there was no draft? I turned 18 in 1975, the draft ended in 1973. There was no requirement even to register for the draft from 1975-1980.

Your “cute” statement is incredibly insulting and, more to the point, completely false.

  25. beerBoy says:

Excellent comic about the eat-in supporting anti-gay marriage
