Since no one is saying it, I want to thank Jack Connelly for all of the volunteer work he has done for the Martin Luther King Housing Development Association. He stepped forward and tried to help this entity and stayed with it after it fell victim to the economic crisis and nearly everyone else left.
Connelly’s law firm, of which I am a member, has represented the housing association pro-bono in an attempt to keep it afloat. He is now being attacked by individuals supporting the Jeannie Darneille campaign. This is being done without regard to the efforts Connelly has made to save this organization and the fact that Darneille actually voted for the expenditure that her group is now criticizing Connelly over.
She did so despite the fact that it called for market rate condos at a time that the condo market was plummeting. Is Darneille the type of person we want in the state Senate to get us out of the current economic crisis?
Connelly’s loyalty and tenacity will serve us well in the state Senate. I wish we had more people willing to take on worthy causes, even when it is more convenient to just walk away. I’m grateful to Connelly and the others at MLKHDA for this work. Alberta Canada’s legacy is worth saving for this city. It’s time to get people in Olympia who can work toward solutions and getting things done.
