R-74: ‘Devout’ Catholic wouldn’t act contrary to church teachings

Barbara Gorzinski’s Your Voice opinion (TNT, 7-17) was very misleading as to the teaching and position of the Catholic Church regarding Referendum 74 and same-sex marriage.

Her representation of being a “devout” Catholic was outright fraudulent. Pursuing and engaging in behavior that is contrary to moral teachings falls far short of that which is prescribed by the church. The fact that other so-called “Catholics” might agree with her is irrelevant as concerns church doctrine.

I’ll take Barbara as a Christian long before I could take Patricia.
Why is it that ideology blinds people so?

  2. frankiethomas says:

Somewhere there’s a millstone with Patricia’s name on it.

  3. MrCarleone says:

Once again, we have the sycophant followers of the Catholic Church !

A church who has unapologetically condoned and encouraged the moral, mental and physical destruction of a generation of children !

Of course the continued child abuse is not solely the problem with the priesthood.

It is a problem with the faithful of the Catholic Church…they who continue to support with their attendence, faith, and money.

Each and every person who walks in the door of a catholic church shares responsibility

wow. blech. wretch. as a former Catholic she reminds me of some of the reasons I left.

  5. nwcolorist says:

    Well stated, Patricia.

  6. sandblower says:

A little warped eh, nw? You defend priests who abuse with your comment.

  7. An ex-Catholic is a devote Catholic who no longer follows the teaching of the Church.

  8. The biggest problem with the church is that it misrepresents what the scriptures actually say. The word “homosexual” didn’t appear in an english language bible until the 20th century. Jesus says nothing of gays. The Levitical ode is vague. Paul said only that straight people acting gay wasn’t natural. Self-righteous old white men decided one day that gay people were inferior, same as they once held women and minorities as inferior. Bigotry is par for the course for the modern church. We should not be surprised when church-goers espouse the suppressive views of their parishioners.

And this whole “definition of marriage” thing is hilarious. The arrogance of these people to think that they get to define other peoples relationships! Pompous buncha rear-ends.

  9. aislander says:

So…you guys are attacking the writer for suggesting that those who wish to be congregants of the Church follow its teachings?

Unbelievably small of you people. Even though I expect so little of lefties, you always manage to disappoint.

  10. Patricia – as a “devout Catholic” I am certain that you are aware of the Church’s teachings regarding moral conscience.

1782 Man has the right to act in conscience and in freedom so as personally to make moral decisions. “He must not be forced to act contrary to his conscience. Nor must he be prevented from acting according to his conscience, especially in religious matters.”

1800 A human being must always obey the certain judgment of his conscience.

  11. Islander – we are attacking churches for trying to force non-members to follow church beliefs and practices.
